Presenter Bios



Calvin D. Armerding, MA, LPC



Calvin is Senior Associate at Travelers Rest Counseling Associates, where he counsels adults, parents, and couples. He is the President of the South Carolina Society of Adlerian Psychology, author of The Cooperative Family: How Ridding Ourselves of Competitive Goals Helps Us Flourish (2021), and co-founder of The Alfred Adler Fellows Program (AAFP), a regional training program in Adlerian Psychology.



Kristen J. Aycock, PhD (Psychologist)



Dr. Aycock received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University in 2011. She is currently in private practice at Perspectives Counseling Inc. in Atlanta, GA. She has presented at the local, state and national levels.



Gary S. Bauman, PhD, NBCC, LPC, CPCS



Dr. Bauman received his Ph.D. in Counseling from Georgia State University in 2000. He is currently a professor of psychology and the graduate program coordinator at Brenau University as well he is in independent private practice in Braselton. Dr. Bauman has presented at numerous conferences at the state, national and international levels.



Susan E. Belangee, PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS, DNASAP



Dr. Susan Belangee received her PhD from Georgia State University in 2003. She is currently the Executive Director of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology and in 2023 she launched her consultation and training business, Dynamic Growth Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC. Susan presents locally, nationally, and internationally on topics including Adlerian psychology, eating disorders, working with clients who identify as LGBTQ+, and using the BASIS-A Inventory in multiple settings.



Dr. Michele Frey



Dr. Frey received her PhD in Counselor Education and Practice from Georgia State University in 2007. She is currently in private practice at Frey Counseling and Consulting Services, PC serving as an adjunct instructor with Mercer University’s PhD Counselor Education program, Master’s in Community Mental Health, and Bachelor’s Criminal Justice programs, and is on the editorial staff for the Journal of Individual Psychology. She has presented at the local, state, national and international level.



LaShanna Stephens, MS, LPC, NCC, ACS, CCMHC, BC-TMH



LaShanna Stephens, MS, LPC, NCC, ACS, CCMHC, BC-TMH, is a highly credentialed mental health professional with extensive experience in telehealth, private practice, and clinical supervision. As the founder of Sound Advice Counseling, LLC in Macon, GA, LaShanna specializes in trauma, anxiety, and relationship counseling. Her diverse professional background spans private practice, healthcare settings, and correctional facilities, giving her a unique perspective on mental health care across different environments.


A passionate educator and advocate, LaShanna regularly contributes to the field through speaking engagements focused on Adlerian psychology, relationship dynamics, and clinical case conceptualization. She has been featured in various media outlets including ShoutoutDFW Magazine and marriage.com. LaShanna is dedicated to empowering individuals through counseling, education, and advocacy, while expanding access to quality mental health services. Her commitment to professional excellence is evident through her numerous certifications and continued engagement with innovative therapeutic approaches



Tara Overzat, PhD, LPC, NCC



Dr. Overzat has presented on the topic of LGBTQ+ matters and counseling at the national, state, and local levels. She has co-presented Safe Zone trainings (LGBTQ+ focused trainings) at the University of North Georgia and presented on issues of counseling LGBTQ+ individuals for colleagues looking to expand their working knowledge of this population. Dr. Overzat has lived experience and has worked professionally with counseling LGBTQ+ individuals for 9 years. She is the CEO and Primary Therapist of Getting Overzat, LLC (https://www.gettingoverzat.com/) and specializes in working with LGBTQ+, international, and immigrant clients.



Jacob "JD" Dreiling



Jacob "JD" Dreiling is an Associate Professional Counselor (soon to be fully licensed!) in the state of Georgia, a Play Therapist, and a Certified AutPlay Therapist. He is a doctoral student at Georgia State University for Counselor Education and Practice. He works with children, teens, families, couples, adults, and seniors utilizing experiential techniques to help clients gain insight and become agents of change in their own lives and the world at large. He is a part of the Geek Therapy community, soon to be teaching faculty for the League of Extraordinary Adlerian Play Therapists, serves on committees for the Georgia Association for Play Therapy and the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, and is a trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. He and his husband have been playing D&D for sixteen years and he has been facilitating therapeutic D&D for the past year and a half.



Stacy Daniel Sampson, MS, NBCC, LPC



Ms. Sampson Received her master of science in clinical counseling psychology from Brenau University in 2008. She is the founder and owner of Oasis Counseling Center, a private practive in Athens, GA. She specializes in working with trauma, particularly domestic violence survivors, and has been trained in EMDR. Additionally, Ms. Sampson has completed over 180 hours of sex therapy training and has been certified in the state of FL and is working towards AASECT Certification. She has presented at the local and state level.



Erika Walker



Erika Walker is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (licensed in both Kansas and Missouri), as well as a Registered Play Therapist. She received her master’s degree in Social Work from Newman University in 2013 and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Religious Studies from The University of Kansas in 2006. Erika received her play therapy training from KC Play in 2015, and then obtained her Registered Play Therapist credential in 2016.

She provides psychotherapy to families and individuals. Erika specializes in the areas of developmental delays, Autism, trauma, grief and loss, attachment and play therapy for ages 0 to 6, and 18 and up. She also has training on utilizing Dungeons and Dragons in therapy to work on treatment goals.

Within her work, Erika utilizes Brainspotting, EMDR®, Adlerian Play Therapy and non-directive play therapy, and AutPlay Therapy®. She also utilizes Theraplay® techniques.



Jody Housker, PhD, NCC, ACS, NBCCH, LPC



Jody Housker received her PhD in Counselor Education, Supervision and Practice from the University of South Dakota in 2000. She has been in private practice since 2005 in Atlanta, GA. Prior to private practice she taught master's level counselors at two different universities. She has presented at the state, national and international level.



David Markwell, PhD, LPC, LCMHC, NCC, ACS, CPCS,
BC-TMH, EAS-C



David is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and National Board-Certified Counselor. He is licensed in Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.He is a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider and is certified to provide Telehealth services in Florida and South Carolina.He is a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor and Approved Clinical Supervisor. He is the former Clinical Supervision Chair for the LPCA of Georgia. He serves as the President of the LPCA of Georgia (2023-2024) and was the recipient of the LPCA 2017 George C Podein Counselor of the Year.



Wendy Price, M.A., LPC, CPCS



Wendy earned her Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University, Atlanta in 2010 and is currently pursuing her PhD in Professional Counseling at Amridge University. Her experience includes working as an E911 dispatcher for 18 years, providing in-home counseling for six years, three years at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, and three years in private practice at
Enlightening Streams Counseling.



Carla Jefferson, Masters student - graduation anticipated December 2025



Carla Jefferson is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has a strong academic background, having graduated with a bachelor's degree from Troy University, and is a distinguished member of the Delta Mu Delta Business International National Honor Society and the Chi Sigma Iota Mu-Upsilon Alpha International Counseling Honor Society. She has held leadership positions, including the Laity Chair on the Zoar UMC Advisory and Leadership Board and the North Georgia Conference United Women of Faith Communication Chair. Her expertise in Supply Chain Management, Account Management, Project Management, Client Success, and Training and Implementation, along with her commitment to continuous growth, has contributed to her professional success.



Timothy Pierce-Tomlin, MS, LPC



Timothy is an LPC in Athens, Georgia. Timothy primarily works with young adults and couples, with a focus in poly, kink, and LGBTQ+ spaces. When not counseling, Tim is an active martial artist and runner. Tim participates actively in his community, having been on city council and in various district positions. In his free time Tim loves to play games, go on walks, and spend time with his family.



Ryan Sokolowski, MS, APC



Ryan Sokolowski, MS is a recent graduate of the Mercer counseling program and is currently in private practice in the Atlanta area
